Bringing the Joy of Live Music into Care Homes

Once Upon a Tune was inspired by my late Nana, Marion. Whilst visiting her in her care home towards the end of her life, I saw first-hand the incredible way music could spark memories, connection and joy — even when so much else had faded. Watching her light up during familiar songs inspired my university research into music therapy and dementia, and ultimately became the reason Once Upon a Tune exists today.

The photo above captures a very special moment with my dear Nana, Marion, who used to love playing instruments with me when I visited.

I now have the privilege of visiting care homes across Yorkshire, delivering uplifting and interactive music sessions designed to bring people together through live music, singing and shared experiences.

Each session includes a beautiful mix of live piano music, singing and engaging musical activities tailored to the needs of your residents. From gentle singalongs and nostalgic favourites to energetic movement activities with instruments, props and sensory resources, every visit is designed to encourage participation, spark joy and create meaningful moments.

No two sessions are ever the same. Some are calm and reflective, while others are full of laughter, dancing and interaction. Sessions are adapted to suit the residents in the room and create an inclusive atmosphere where everybody can engage in a way that feels comfortable for them.

Alongside group sessions, I also offer a very special bedside music service for residents who may be isolated to their bedrooms or unable to attend communal activities. During these visits, I spend time one-to-one with residents, singing and playing familiar songs at their bedside so they can still experience the comfort, connection and joy that live music can bring.

Themes change throughout the year, from seasonal celebrations and remembrance events to personalised requests from individual homes. Every visit is designed to brighten the day, encourage connection and support wellbeing through the power of music.

If you would like to find out more, discuss availability or arrange a booking for your care home, I would love to hear from you.

I saw Hannah today at Stamford Bridge Beaumont and she captivated the room with her charm, piano talent and singing voice. The interactions were amazing to watch and the residents had a wonderful time using the items she brought with her to join in. She was professional and friendly and made everyone feel happy. Thank you for bringing the joy of music to the residents, see you again in the future.
