Music Sessions for Adult Day Centres & Assisted Living Communities

What does a session look like? 🎶

Once Upon a Tune sessions combine live piano music, group singalongs and interactive music-making, giving everyone plenty of opportunities to listen, sing, play and get involved.

We might sing well-known favourites accompanied by live piano, learn rhythms together and play them on instruments, create our own tuned-bell orchestra, explore percussion, take part in musical games or use movement and props alongside live music.

Puppets often join us too! They can be a fantastic way to encourage interaction, communication, imagination and humour, particularly for adults with learning disabilities and those who respond well to visual and playful forms of engagement.

Music can also be combined with sensory experiences, such as light and shadow play, movement, colourful props and other visual resources, creating different ways to experience and respond to the music.

Sessions are fun, varied and completely interactive — I'm not there to simply perform to the group; we make music together.

Built around your group

Every group is different, so I get to know the people I visit and what they enjoy. Favourite music, interests and personalities often inspire future activities — one group I visit loves Disney, for example, so Disney music has become a regular part of our sessions!

Everything can be adapted to different abilities, with everyone encouraged to participate in whatever way works for them.

Confidence through music

Regular visits also give me the privilege of seeing confidence grow over time. I've watched people who were initially very quiet or reluctant to participate go on to sing in front of the whole group, enthusiastically join musical activities and proudly show what they can do.
