The Heart Behind the Music
My passion for bringing music into care and community settings began back in 2012, when I spent time visiting my Nana in her care home. She had fourteen children — my mum being the youngest — and more grandchildren than anyone could keep count of. Over time, she began to forget who we all were, which was heartbreaking. But one thing she never forgot was the music.
Her face would light up whenever her favourite songs played, and she could still sing along word for word. I found it remarkable — and it inspired me to explore how music can reach people living with dementia in such a powerful way. I went on to write my university dissertation on music therapy and dementia, carrying out a case study with my Nana where we listened to her favourite songs and made music together. The difference it made to her mood, alertness and overall well-being was truly incredible.
The photo you see above is me making music with my dear Nana, shortly before she passed away. I do all of this for her. She’s the reason Once Upon a Tune exists — and every time I sit at the piano or see a smile during a session, I’m reminded of those precious moments we shared.
Since then, I’ve been passionate about sharing the healing and connective power of music with others. Through Once Upon a Tune, I now have the privilege of visiting care homes, assisted living settings, and adult day centres — creating uplifting, inclusive sessions that bring joy, connection, and comfort to those who need it most.
What I Offer
Music has an incredible ability to bring people together — to spark joy, lift spirits, and create meaningful moments. My interactive music sessions are designed to do exactly that.
Each visit combines live piano music, singing, and engaging activities tailored to the needs of your setting and the individuals who attend. I bring along a range of instruments, props, and sensory resources, encouraging everyone to take part in a way that feels comfortable for them. Whether it’s tapping along to the rhythm, singing a well-loved song, or simply relaxing and enjoying the sound of live music, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
No two sessions are the same — I adapt the pace, content, and style to suit each group. Some sessions are calm and reflective, while others are full of energy, dancing, and laughter. It all depends on the people in front of me and what feels right in the moment. Whether it’s a care home, assisted living, or adult day centre, I make sure every session is inclusive, interactive, and tailored to the abilities and preferences of those taking part. Every visit is designed to bring people together through music, movement, and joy.
Themes change throughout the year — from seasonal celebrations such as Christmas and Remembrance, to special requests from individual settings. Each session is an uplifting, hour-long experience designed to brighten the day, encourage creativity, and promote well-being through the power of music.

I saw Hannah today at Stamford Bridge Beaumont and she captivated the room with her charm, piano talent and singing voice. The interactions were amazing to watch and the residents had a wonderful time using the items she brought with her to join in. She was professional and friendly and made everyone feel happy. Thank you for bringing the joy of music to the residents, see you again in the future.
